You already know the active steps you take now can improve your overall wellness today, tomorrow and well into your future. And while it seems simple to get out of that chair more often and move, making it stick is another matter. That’s where vívofit can turn good intentions into lifelong habits. It’s the only fitness band that greets you with a personalized daily goal, tracks your progress and reminds you when it’s time to move.

    Personalized Daily Goals

vívofit learns your current activity level, then assigns an attainable daily goal. As you meet your milestones, vívofit will adjust your goal for the next day, gradually nudging you toward a healthier lifestyle. At Garmin Connect™, our free online fitness community, you can earn virtual badges and view your progress.

Tells Time and "Time to Move"

Research shows prolonged periods of inactivity such as sitting at a desk decreases your body’s production of fat-burning enzymes. You can reverse that effect by taking frequent, short walk breaks throughout your day. And while you might lose track of time and forget to move, vívofit knows. A red move bar appears on the display after 1 hour of inactivity and builds when you’ve been sitting too long. Just walk for a couple of minutes to reset the move bar.

    Keep Moving

When you’re ready to take the next steps toward better health, vívofit has additional features to keep you motivated. Use a heart rate monitor¹ with vívofit to record your heart rate and zone data and get more accurate calorie burn information for any fitness activity, such as a run or a cardio class at the gym. At Garmin Connect, you can join online challenges with other vívofit users or start your own competition with friends to compete for virtual badges and bragging rights.

    Always On

vívofit follows your progress 24/7, and it can stay on for more than a year without a battery change. Set the sleep mode when you go to bed and vívofit will monitor your rest. A very satisfied user!
I bought this on a daily special at Amazon. It works exactly as described and I'm very happy with the unit, especially at the $60 purchase price! A big concern I did have at the time of purchase were the low ratings by those who complained about the wrist band clasp not holding closed which resulted in the loss of the watch. The ad at time of my purchase did say it was the latest model from Garmin. (March 2015) I'm not sure what that all implies BUT mine arrived with a safety ring that slides over the clasp to prevent the band from unclamping. It matches the band and appears that Garmin has responded to the earlier complaints. The photos on Amazon do not show this safety ring but mine had it and it will prevent the unclamping. I am also impressed with the accuracy. I try to fool the band by sitting still but move the watch in an attempt to fool it into registering steps I have not taken and it is smart enough to know the real thing. On my last walk, I actually counted several hundred of my actual steps and it registered exactly the number of steps taken. I only walk and do not jog or run so I do not know if this would be accurate for you joggers. As a walker it meets my needs perfectly. I have attached a photo of the safety ring that is not seen on ad photos that apparently were not included on the earlier models. I would agree with earlier complaints for those without the safety ring, that the band could unclamp and result in loss of the watch. My watch will sync perfectly every time and easily with my iMac, iPhone, and iPad. I simply hold the button on the watch until SYNC appears and I'm close to the Apple device. Everything is wireless. My iMac uses the included USB dongle and my phone and tablet use Bluetooth. I have not tried it but I suspect the iMac could also use the built in Bluetooth also. The included instructions are sufficient but tiny print on small pages. I downloaded the manual free on the Internet in PDF format and there were several YouTube videos to explain more of the watch operations. The software is downloaded at Garmin and works for all my Apple devices. The software on your device allows you to install firmware upgrades too. Mine arrived with the latest version 4.0 at time of purchase. All the software functions appear to work perfectly. I have not seen any software bugs or hiccups on my Apple devices. The watch came with two wrist bands. As a 6'3" adult I used the larger band and work well with room to both enlarge or decrease the diameter as needed. The smaller band looks as to fit most youth, smaller folks, or most female users. I see many aftermarket bands advertised in many colors and the unit will easily snap out of the band to change, no hardware is required. My model was without the heart monitor but can be added later if you like. I have only had mine a few days but very satisfied so far. I would not hesitate to repurchase if desired. I already plan to purchase one for my 17 year old son for his birthday.

Wasn't sure about this one, with so many on the market. Amazon had it on one of those quick buys at 50% off so me and my wife bought two.

These are really great. The readout is right on the bracelet, there's a keeper included so the band stays closed and two different-sized bands are supplied; one called large (fits everyone but the small women & kids) and a small band made just for my wife.

      Very comfortable to wear 24/7.

Linked it to "My Fitness Pal" and that program picks up my exercise and steps and translates this into more calories available for that day.
Downloaded the Andriod app and it has all the information you could ask for. I especially like the sleep monitor, shows exactly how you slep the previous night. (I had no idea I awoke so many times during the night).

Linked it to "My Fitness Pal" and that program picks up my exercise and steps and translates this into more calories available for that day.
You can also share your data with friends via the cloud.

No charging needed!!!!! Two coin cell batteries last a year. (This is a big plus in my opinion.)

Waterproof, bath, shower , swim or skin dive wearing it.

After one hour of inactivity, signals when you need to get up and get moving. Does this buy creating a red bar across the top of the display. At every fifteen minutes thereafter a smaller segment appears, I currently have a red bar and four segments meaning I haven't been active for the last two hours (or more). Nice reminder to stay active; especially at my age :-)

Has a watch function showing time of day and date. Shows steps taken, steps goal (number of steps still needed to reach goal), number of miles walked (or km), and links to a heart rate monitor (this is an optional strap you purchase and wear around your chest). Can be any brand that has Bluetooth capability).

Slightly difficult learning curve, took a couple of hours.

Based on all the other monitors on the market, I would buy this one again.

      I hate this F*ing thing.

It started out innocently enough. Track your steps, I thought. It'll be good, I thought. So I sprang for the Garmin. Low(ish) cost, counts steps and keeps track of stuff. Yeah. That'll work. What happens after you turn 50, see, is the weight can creep on. Slowly. Slowly. Silently. Until suddenly you weigh more than you did at the highest during pregnancy. Yikes! And since my girls are teens, I can no longer blame the youngest one for baby weight, which is what I did for years.

So I get the thing and put it on. It innocently looks at you and says, "Yeah, you can do 5000 steps a day. That's not much, fatty." So I do. At the beginning, it was just for tracking steps. You can connect to this other app to track food intake if you want, but no, that's not for me. I just wanted to see how many steps I was doing every day in my rather sedentary life.

Well. That first day I did nothing but watch. Um. 3584 steps. Really? So, I realized, yes, this is bad. After that I made it a point to AT LEAST make the minimum steps. After a couple of weeks, I noticed that the required count was sneaking up. Suddenly I had to step 5200 steps, and on an on, until finally it hit 7200. OMG. So, meanwhile I'm trucking along every day, meeting my steps. Who wants to sync up and see all those lovely orange step lines (goal met for the day) with horrifying blue mixed in (goal not met). It happened a couple of times, don't judge. Have I left it until 10:00 p.m. to find that I still need 4000 steps? Yes I have. Again, don't judge. I did the steps.

So then to add insult to injury, the other thing this guy does is it blinks a red line at you if you sit on your butt too long. I'M WORKING. It doesn't care. So now I find myself leaping up and marching around so as to not piss it off with my inactivity.

So then it starts playing mind games. "Geez, you're doing all the steps. Would it kill you to give up some of the sugar and carbs?" So then you decide okay, I can give up sugar one or two days a week. Hey, I really like ice cream, kill me. So after it looks at you and rolls it's eyes, you figure, okay. Sugar just one day a week. I can do this. The Garmin is like, "Yeah, piggy, you can. It's not going to get you the thanks from a grateful nation, but it's a start." So that happens. Next it's carbs. I mean, you're doing the work, right?

Next thing I know, I'm not wasting any precious step-taking minutes. Waiting for water to boil on your scrap of dinner? WALK! Take the dog out a couple of extra times, it adds up. This thing is breathing down your neck, tracking every move you make. I have worn a track through my kitchen, living room, and family room waiting for stuff. By the way, books on tape are awesome.

I find myself a month later. I have more energy (who knew?). My dog is thinner. I'M thinner. We're saving a fortune on rocky road ice cream. My girls and husband are happy because I have less time to hassle them.

      It's all this Garmin's fault.

Good product. All other fitness bands require regular charging. As this is battery operated like regular watch, will not require regular charging. That looks to be like a good feature for us as I don't want my fitness band to be drained out of battery the day morning, if I forget to charge

Even though The initial piece was faulty,Amazon was quick to replace the product with another one. Impressed by Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stuff!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 2, 2015
Garmin Vivofit - purchased on 28 Feb 2015.

OK, so let me begin by saying I bought one of these purely as an incentive to get that little bit fitter. I am quite the gadget type and figured I could combine both of my enjoyments and boy does it deliver!

I need to clear one thing up first regarding the strap. Garmin must have acknowledged there was an issue with the strap coming off and have made a slight adjustment with the inclusion of a slide piece of matching rubber to secure when on. Perfect.

I have given this numerous accuracy tests over the past few days and I have to say it is incredibly accurate within about 3%.

Tricking it is fairly difficult (unless you were determined which is only cheating yourself!) and occasionally there is the odd unexpected occurrence (for example, Whilst driving for approx half-an-hour I had inadvertently done fifty steps or so) but nothing which will throw the day's end results too much out of whack.

I have also heard of the issue with syncing being problematic. I had one issue which was resolved quickly by googling. And this is most important:- the Vivofit will sync with your smartphone (I have a Samsung Galaxy S3) and also comes with an Antenna dongle for syncing with your PC. BE AWARE - syncing with multiple devices at the same time will cause confusion when syncing. Whilst the antennae was in my PC it wouldn't sync with my phone and following successful sync with my phone, I couldn't then easily connect with my PC. Best to keep it simple and use a preferred method, mine being my phone which I find now syncs perfectly.

Waterproof too! I haven't been swimming yet but showering isn't an issue.

Now, here is a massive plus in my opinion... No charging required. Ever. Sure the batteries will need replacing once a year but compared to the Fitbit which needs to be charged regularly, it's a no-brainer for me.

A lot of people have said they would have liked to have a backlight. Ok, but you can wait until you get to some light to see it and the batteries last a year. Again, in my opinion, I prefer the no-need-to-charge option. In any case, the Fitbit Flex doesn't have a backlight, just five dots. At least you know how many steps you've actually done with this baby! (I use the Flex as an example as both these fitness bands are simarlarly priced).

I found linking the Garmin Connect software with My Fitness Pal software a doddle. I have been a user of MFP for some time and find this couples together with it nicely recognising goals and rewarding you extra calories based on steps.

Overall, this is a neat, slick piece of wearable technology which will help you achieve fitness goals.

I am not one who often writes reviews but felt this product was good enough to warrant one and maybe provide help and answers to frequently asked questions. (Don't forget - strap issue now resolved!)

I have been using the Vivofit for only three days and will update my review following more use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Positive Überraschung
Reviewed in Germany on May 10, 2015
      ### Kurzum ###

Preis/Leistung 5 Sterne.

      Positive Überraschung

Reviewed in Germany on May 10, 2015
      ### Kurzum ###

4.0 out of 5 stars Fills A Gap In My Training Regime
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 6, 2014
I bought two Garmin Vivofit fitness bands; a blue one for my wife and a black one for myself. The Vivofit with the blue band came with a 'vivokeeper' safety band, the black one did not. I mention this because other reviewers have reported that the bands have come undone whilst wearing them (more on this later).

The setup instructions that came with the fitness band is sparse and very basic. After a search on the internet, however, I found an on-line manual here

      http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/vivofit_Owners_Manual_EN.pdf

This will fully explain the setup procedure and therefore I won't duplicate it here.

There are two things you must do. The first is to download either Garmin express for your computer or the Garmin express app. for use with a smartphone. This download is used purely to sync the Vivofit. If using the fitness band on a smartphone, Bluetooth must be enabled; on the computer a small USB + Ant stick is provided and must be put into a spare USB port on the computer Once this app is download and you have paired your device with the app, you will be invited to setup an account with Garmin Connect. This is the business side of the whole kaboodle.

Garmin connect is where you see the results of your endeavours and is also a 'control panel' for setting up your device and user settings. Neither of these can be done directly from the fitness band. Each time you sync the fitness band using Garmin Express, not only will your daily endeavours be uploaded to Garmin Connect, but also any changes you have made to the device and user settings in Garmin Connect will be downloaded to Vivofit. There is a link from Garmin Express to your Garmin Connect Account. Those who use other Garmin fitness products will be familiar with this process.

      The Strap:
I have worn the Vivofit (the one without the vivokeeper) continuously for about a week. Every day during that time, I have done weight training in the gym, swimming and other domesticated things like showering etc. So far, the strap has not come undone. When lane swimming at particularly busy times at the pool, on a few occasions, I have hit the strap accidentally on the lane ropes. The strap did not come undone. It also behaved itself when I caught the strap on clothing. Having said that, if, like me, after reading other reviews, you have concerns about the strap coming undone, for extra safety you can order a free 'Vivokeeper' here. http://www8.garmin.com/en-GB/vivokeeper/

Delivery time for the Vivokeeper is 4 to 6 weeks. So far though, I've had no problems with the strap.

****Update****** I've now been wearing the Vivifit continuously for four weeks. I have had no problems with the strap coming loose whatsoever.

      Accuracy
The fitness band converts the number of daily steps you take into equivalent mileage. I decided to check the accuracy using my Garmin Forerunner 305 (GPS enabled) watch which I use for training. I appreciate that there will be some inaccuracies with the GPS watch but I estimate that the fitness band is about 90% to 94% accurate when using my height as the default setting. It is possible to calibrate your pace length by putting the result of how many steps it takes you to cover ten feet. To be honest, I tried this and found that the accuracy got worse. It was probably because I wasn't walking at my normal stride length when counting my steps over ten feet.

      Heart Rate Monitor
I already own a Garmin heart rate monitor that came with my Garmin Forerunner, hence I bought the fitness band only. As a result, the device setting on this particular Vivofit had no 'page' for heart rate. I therefore had to go to Garmin connect and tick a box to allow heart rate to be displayed (remember to sync fitness band). The fitness band paired very quickly with the heart rate monitor and for me, I found this very useful for getting 'into the zone' when using aerobic fitness equipment in the gym. It was also useful for counting calories whilst swimming. I understand that if you purchase the fitness band version that comes with a heart rate monitor, the 'heart' page will already be set as a default setting.

      Summary
I found the fitness band to be neat and unobtrusive. The display is very clear and easy to read. There is only one button on the band that you use to scroll through the different pages. It is really easy to use. Having said that, it took me a couple of days to get used to the various symbols so I knew what information I was looking at on the display. Alas, there is no backlight so when it gets dark you are unable to read the display.

If you want a training aid for use in sport then this is not really for you. However, if you want to keep track of how many calories you are burning and need an incentive to get out and do something, set yourself goals and join online challenges then yes, I would recommend it. Indeed for me, the great thing it has got going for it is that I can wear it whilst swimming (waterproof up to 50 metres) and get an idea of how many calories I'm burning in the gym. My Garmin Forerunner 305 will not allow me to do either of these things because it needs a GPS signal to determine what distance I have travelled in order to give me a calorie burn figure. So for me, now I have the fitness band, I have the best of both worlds.

The reason I gave 4 stars is because there is no backlight and I would like to see better accuracy.
